A Principle For Government Stability
President Obama invited a lesbian pastor, Jasmine Beach-Ferrara, to read the scripture at the White House’s prayer breakfast this past Easter (March 2016). In the shadow of Lincoln’s portrait, her first words behind the podium were: “Greetings from Asheville, North Carolina, and also from the LGBT community, which I’m proud to be a part of and honored to serve through my ministry.” She read from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount in the book of Matthew, chosen especially for verses 10-12. She obviously believes that Jesus’ words about persecution “for my sake” applies to fighting for homosexual rights! This is just another sad example of “calling evil good” (Isaiah 5:20).
This is also an example of our president making alliances with morally, spiritually corrupt people. And the unpopular truth is, a ruler will be no better than the people he attracts, enlists and condones. Solomon warned us about this thousands of years ago in Proverbs 25:4-5. “Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer. Take away the wicked from before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.”
The problem with our president is that he doesn’t recognize “dross” when he sees it—and actually thinks it is silver! But confusing the two won’t stop the consequences, namely, a pervasive weakness is continually undermining his administration, witnessed by numerous on-going scandals. Only righteousness, not the whitewashing of evil, will produce real stability.
Most modern rulers are far removed from doing Proverbs 20:26, which plainly says, “A wise king scattereth the wicked, and bringeth the wheel over them.” Those are strong words! Instead of coddling the wicked with public invitations to speak, a leader should warn them of his active opposition to their wickedness. But that, of course, would require an understanding of sin as taught in the Bible—the most politically incorrect book in the Western World. On the other hand, political correctness never made anyone pure, much less strong.
May America yet be refined so the dross of sin won’t be paraded before our eyes!
